Stella McCartney Named Industry Ambassador at CSM’s M School

Stella McCartney to lead sustainable innovation at Central Saint Martins’ M School

Stella McCartney has been appointed the first Industry Ambassador for Central Saint Martins’ M School at University of the Arts London. The designer will work with students and faculty across fashion, jewellery, textiles and materials to champion material innovation, regenerative design and ethical practice as part of CSM’s Pioneers Season.

Driving sustainable futures in fashion education

In her new role McCartney will collaborate on studio projects, offer mentoring and bring industry networks into the classroom. Her involvement aims to support practical research into next-generation materials, circular systems and low-impact production methods. The M School’s multidisciplinary model encourages cross-pollination between disciplines, helping students test ideas that combine craft, science and commercial viability.

How students and faculty will benefit

CSM students can expect curated workshops, guest critiques and project briefs that connect academic experimentation with market realities. Faculty will have access to industry insights and partnerships that can scale lab discoveries. This hands-on exchange creates pathways from prototype to practice and gives emerging designers direct exposure to regenerative design thinking.

Strengthening London’s creative leadership

The appointment underscores CSM’s commitment to ethical practice and systems thinking in design education. Bringing a high-profile industry figure into a sustained teaching role signals a deeper alignment between academia and business across London’s creative ecosystem. For the city, it reinforces a reputation as a global hub for sustainable design and innovation and offers tangible opportunities for the next generation of creative leaders.

As Pioneers Season unfolds, McCartney’s role is positioned as both a platform for experimentation and a bridge to industry, offering students meaningful exposure to the challenges and possibilities of building a more sustainable fashion future.
