Architecture Rooted in Tradition
Located on the serene shores of Lugu Lake in Yunnan, China, ArcadiaPlace is a distinguished member of Design Hotels that artfully combines natural splendor, rich culture, and contemporary design. Designed by Imago Architecture Design Consultancy under Yang Lu’s visionary guidance, the project reimagines existing villas through the use of rammed earth construction, creating a cascading architectural form that harmonizes with the mountainous landscape. Each room features balconies that frame breathtaking views of Gemu Goddess Mountain, Houlong God of Men Mountain, and the tranquil lake below.
Interiors: A Homage to Mosuo Life
The interiors of ArcadiaPlace pay heartfelt tribute to Mosuo traditions, evoking the warmth of a grandmother’s home alongside the intimate beauty of a maiden’s flower chamber. The design incorporates coloured glass screens symbolizing local craftsmanship, patterned textiles that tell stories of heritage, and elegant jade bathtubs. Sacred timber pillars and reclaimed beams introduce authenticity, while intricate window lattices filter natural light, creating a balance between privacy and openness. The atmosphere resonates with cultural significance while offering both intimacy and spaciousness within each space.
Experiential Spaces and Connection
Beyond the guest rooms, communal areas invite meaningful interaction and reflection. The glass-lined lobby welcomes visitors with panoramic views, flowing into a rooftop infinity pool that mirrors the lake’s calm surface. The Yun Ying Dining Room serves Chinese fusion cuisine framed by lake vistas, while the Xing Yu Lobby Lounge offers floral teas infused with symbolism reflective of Mosuo matrilineal culture through the vibrant use of red. Complemented by a spa and yoga studio featuring a calming colour palette, these spaces cultivate a holistic guest experience centered on cultural immersion and serenity.
ArcadiaPlace Lugu Lake stands as more than a luxury destination; it is a living bridge connecting the past to the present. Through sensitive architectural choices and thoughtful interiors, it preserves Mosuo heritage and invites guests to experience a place where culture, nature, and modern design converge seamlessly.
