Maison&Objet Paris has named Harry Nuriev, creative director of Crosby Studios, as Designer of the Year. Selected under the event theme Past Reveals Future, Nuriev is celebrated for a practice that rethinks objects and contexts to offer fresh ways of seeing design.
The Essence of “Transformism”
Nuriev’s manifesto, called Transformism, values perception over invention. Rather than erase an object’s history, he gives it a second life, restoring meaning to overlooked forms and materials. The approach privileges gesture and reinterpretation, asking viewers to recognize familiar things in unfamiliar arrangements.
Global Reach and Influential Collaborations
Working between Paris and New York, Nuriev and Crosby Studios have built a wide-ranging practice across fashion, culture and product design. Highlights include projects with Balenciaga, H&M, Nike, Gucci and partnerships with institutions such as the Louvre. These collaborations show how Transformism translates across scales, from runway installations to gallery scenography.
His Vision at Maison&Objet
For his return to Maison&Objet, Nuriev will present an immersive ad hoc scenography that reframes everyday objects as points of inspiration. The installation aims to be experiential and communal, inviting visitors to move through curated encounters that reveal new relationships between object, space and story.
Nuriev’s recognition reflects a moment in contemporary design that prizes reinterpretation and cultural cross-pollination. His work asks professionals and enthusiasts alike to look again at the familiar and consider how small shifts in context can change what we value.
